WHERE DO CRIPPLED CHILDREN GO?

“The connection between my childhood and my adulthood must not be lost. To lose that connection is to lose me.”

  • Within every man dwells the little child who preceded him.
Traditionally, children’s day has been misconstrued only as a juvenile convocation devoid of adult relevance and characterised by childish funfair. Irrespective of the side of the prism from which we look at it, we must not lose touch with the child in us. Every man is preceded by a boy and every woman is preceded by a girl. To understand the man that I have become, you need to meet the boy that I used to be. To understand the woman that I have become, you need to meet the girl that I used to be.

  • To understand the adult that I have become, you need to meet the child that I used to be.

Within every woman dwells the little child who preceded her. Adulthood is rooted in childhood. Many of the thoughts, ideologies and resolutions that we imbibe came from our early experiences as children.

All the fruits of our manhood are rooted in childhood, our self-esteem, our inner awareness of who we are, our sexuality and our preferences are deeply rooted in our childhood though their branches might have been pruned by our exposures and education.

However if the child in us is crippled, we would become defective adults. I remember Melphiboseth in the Bible. He could have and should have been King in Israel but someone crippled his childhood, bruised his dreams and twisted his future.
This wounded young man lost his future before he could ever realize it and that singular event handicapped him for life.

Have you been there?

He could have been a king but there was problem in his childhood. There was something wrong with his mind - he knew his potentials, giftedness and prospects but his will had been crippled because someone tampered with his childhood. The same way someone tampered with the sexuality of Dinah. Someone dropped him. Someone told him to ‘cold down’ but he ‘cooled off’.
Several things came to play to alter the coordinates of Melphiboseth’s life. It was right from within his own household that his future was murdered. His nurse dropped him and crippled him for life. It wasn’t fair! He didn’t deserves it! Something happened to this man as a child that he never recovered from!

  • Has someone dropped you?
  • Has someone crippled your childhood?

“I apologise for not being everything you expect me to be, but somebody dropped me. I realize that for my age and stage, I should have done more with my life but before you determine the subtotal of all that I am, you have to allow for what I’ve been through, for I have been dropped on flight, in the middle of a process. I have been incapacitated.”

However we can no longer allow our childhood to destroy what God has for us in the present. Where can the little child in us go but to God? Only Jesus can walk us through the barrier of time to heal our childhood.

He said, “Let the little children come to me…”

When we come to God, some pains won’t go away completely but we will find rest. We will find peace. The crippled limbs of Melphiboseth could not be undone, but the good news is that he made it to the palace. He made it to destiny! You can still make it to The Place. God knows exactly where and how to touch and heal you. He is not just the builder of your life, He is also the architect! Not only does he have the power that created you; he also has the power that can repair you!

All you need do is come to him just as you are and say
‘Lord, I have come to Gilead. I need healing. I need repair.’
