FINDING YOUR VOICE AND CONFIDENCE

Let me start by saying: Your Destiny is Greatness. The day comes when every person must leave the security of the nest and pursue their destiny. However, there are people who never came out of their nests because they lacked courage. They lacked confidence. When their future was presented to them, they lacked that intestinal fortitude to embrace it and step into the totality of their destiny. They chose mediocrity. They chose a low life. They chose obscurity. They chose smallness. They chose survival mentality. They chose small goals and weak ambitions. They chose to be a tenant in the terrain of their own destiny! There is a voice in you. There is a greatness that wants to break forth in you. There is a destiny waiting for expression. That voice is within you. Let me say this: Your future is not a date on the calendar; your future is a voice inside you. Your future will come from deep beneath your surface and locating your own core of potential. But our tendency is to l...

THE BITTER TASTE OF LIBERTY

Image
David Diop, a Senegalese poet uses his poem entitled “ Africa ” to describe our independence as possessing a bitter taste after he chronicled our long-suffering experiences and plight through colonialism and post colonial era. Nigeria is the landmass composed of the remnant of many ancient empires and kingdoms. The nation was thus forged from the anvils of hegemonic tendencies, human diversity, conflict and history. Agitations for the independent state of Nigeria began in the early 50s by the likes of Azikwe, Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello. We got that liberty quite alright. But after fifty eight years, the question we should ask ourselves is: How does its fruit taste? Barely seven years after our embryonic conception, civil war broke out ! We went to war against each other; brother against brother in a senseless and preventable orgy of violence that was born out of immaturity and nationalistic infantilism. The war consumed more than two million souls. This despite the ref...

THEY DID NOT DROP OUT OF SCHOOL!

Image
“If your belief is wrong, your behaviours will be wrong. Beliefs determine ability” They quitted their course; not their education!   Until now, we’ve been told that many of the contemporary great and famous men dropped out of school and they still made a huge success out of their lives. The salient ‘home’ lesson often driven to our ear drums is that we don’t really need to go to school or even do well at school to make it in life. And somehow I used to think along that line too.  But recently, I made an astounding discovery. You see when dealing with any issue of life, always identify the norm, the exceptional and the ideal. When you interpret the exceptional to be the norm or ideal, you will run your life on constant collision course with pain and defeat. The end of such race is always an untimely dirge. If you misconstrued the norm to also mean the ideal, you will  end up being small in life. Bill Gates, Steve Job and Mark Zuckerberg are the e...

THE FIGHT FOR YOUR DREAM

Image
There is a fight for your dream. It is a fight of faith; a fight for the future. “This is because every dream, vision and destiny will be contested for.” Dreams do not come true because you dreamt; they come true because you are willing to fight. No truly great man exists who has never experienced something that attempted to defeat him and his dream. Every great man in history and contemporary times will tell you that there were times and events that confronted them and made them to almost give up. But they never did. Your dreams will be contested for by the events, situations and circumstances of life. Strive Masiyiwa, the richest man in Zimbabwe and the founder of ECONET Group and Kwese TV narrated a time in his life when he lost millions of dollars to a particular lawsuit. Practically, he lost everything. At that point, he had two options: to give up on his dreams or to be willing to start all over again. He chose the latter. Today, he had been named as the first bill...

WHERE DO CRIPPLED CHILDREN GO?

“The connection between my childhood and my adulthood must not be lost. To lose that connection is to lose me.” Within every man dwells the little child who preceded him. Traditionally, children’s day has been misconstrued only as a juvenile convocation devoid of adult relevance and characterised by childish funfair. Irrespective of the side of the prism from which we look at it, we must not lose touch with the child in us. Every man is preceded by a boy and every woman is preceded by a girl. To understand the man that I have become, you need to meet the boy that I used to be. To understand the woman that I have become, you need to meet the girl that I used to be. To understand the adult that I have become, you need to meet the child that I used to be. Within every woman dwells the little child who preceded her. Adulthood is rooted in childhood. Many of the thoughts, ideologies and resolutions that we imbibe came from our early experiences as children. All the frui...

NEW RELEASE: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

Image
Today my book, “Survival of the Fittest” was released!   INTRODUCTION: The walk to survival is a long way. Rhythm must not be broken. My resolve to produce this material is stemmed from my desire to let you understand the terrain we play in, the conspiracy against us, the socio-political landscape of Nigeria and the survival strategies of these times. I will take you down the memory lane to show you how the mistakes of yesteryears have produced undone youths and unfinished men with crooked ambitions and how our journey has been defined by a major error. Any nation that produces more vagabonds than leaders must be ready to manage a generation of idiots. Democracy will begin to work when our curriculum is designed in such a way that it builds the leadership capacities of its products. As a 21 st century Nigerian youth, your future is dead on arrival. You are an endangered species and your survival is based on your response to the new rules of engagem...
